What you need before you start
A Spartadoc account whose organization has redaction enabled. The connector signs in to your Spartadoc workspace: no other key or setup is needed.
Claude (web, desktop or mobile) or ChatGPT. You add the connector once, on the web, and it then works on your phone too.
Add the connector in Claude
1. In Claude, open Settings, then Connectors, then “Add custom connector”. Paste the address https://spartadoc.com/mcp.
2. On the “Connect your AI to Spartadoc” screen, sign in with your Spartadoc account (email, password, then the code from your authenticator app or sent by text message if your account asks for one).
3. Click “Allow”. Spartadoc appears in your list of connectors.
To remove access, disconnect Spartadoc in Claude’s Connectors.
Add the connector in ChatGPT
The same connector works in ChatGPT, through the Spartadoc plugin. The first time you use it, ChatGPT opens the same sign-in screen for your Spartadoc workspace, then asks you to click “Allow”.
Have a redacted document read
1. Ask the AI to read your document and to remove the personal information first, for example: “Summarize this contract, but redact the personal information first”.
2. The AI shows an upload link, valid for 15 minutes. Tap it: the page opens in your browser. Do not attach the file to the chat, or the original would reach the AI.
3. Take a photo of the document or choose the file (photo or PDF, up to 10 pages). Spartadoc suggests the areas to mask.
4. Review every area: add what is missing, remove what should stay readable, then see the result with its black bars.
5. Tap “Send to my chat”, go back to the AI and type “done”. It reads the redacted version and answers you.
What the AI receives, and what it does not
The AI receives the redacted text, in which each removed value is replaced by a label ([PERSON_1], [ADDRESS_1]), images of the redacted pages and a link to the redacted PDF. The same value has the same label everywhere in the document.
It receives neither the original nor the removed values: if you ask for the seller’s name, it answers with the label.
Nothing reaches the AI before you tap “Send to my chat”.
Deletion and cancelling
The original is deleted as soon as the redacted version is ready. The redacted version is deleted 15 minutes after you send it.
To cancel an upload, tell the AI (“cancel that upload”): all of its content is deleted. Without cancelling, the link stops working after 15 minutes.
The connector’s three tools
The connector gives the AI three tools:
- ouvrir_depot
- Creates the upload link, valid for 15 minutes, to be shown to you in the chat.
- recuperer_document
- Read-only: returns the latest upload you sent, redacted (text, page images, PDF link), or says it has not been sent yet.
- annuler_depot
- Cancels the latest upload and deletes all of its content.
Limits to know
Automatic detection is an aid: you review and confirm what is sent. Handwriting or a blurry photo can escape detection; add the area yourself in that case.
The connector works in French and English: documents in either language, and the upload page and the messages follow your language.
